Additional MiG-31 to Pacific Fleet

Russia is increasing its military concentration in the Far East. The Moscow government decided to deploy an additional interceptor aircraft to the region.

According to reports in the Russian media, the air-to-air interception capabilities of the Pacific Fleet will be increased. In this context, Russia will shift additional MiG-31 (NATO Code: Foxhound) interceptor aircraft to the 317th Composite Air Regiment stationed at Yelizovo Air Base. The platforms will be transferred to new positions after the modernization process. It is not yet known how many MiG-31s will be deployed in the region.

UAC (United Aircraft Corporation) has been modernizing MiG-31 interceptor aircraft since 2011. Two modernized MiG-31BMs are currently operating in the fleet, which started operations last year. In addition to the 12 MiG-31B and MiG-31BS in the 317th Composite Air Regiment stationed on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Ka-27 anti-submarine warfare helicopter, Il-38 maritime patrol aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, transport aircraft and different rotary-wing platforms are deployed.
