Swedish defence and security company Saab has received orders worth a total of 549 million euros from Airbus Defence and Space to equip the German Air Force’s Eurofighter aircraft. The order aims to elevate the Eurofighter fleet’s electronic warfare (EW) capabilities to the highest level, significantly enhancing the jets’ survivability and situational awareness in modern combat environments. Deliveries of the systems are planned to take place between 2025 and 2028.
Two-Stage Order Highlights Artificial Intelligence
This landmark order placed with Saab consists of two main stages. The first order, valued at 291 million euros, is a continuation of the contract signed in March 2024 covering the integration of the Arexis Electronic Warfare (EW) sensor suite into the Eurofighter EK (Elektronischer Kampf) variant.

The second stage, valued at 258 million euros, deepens the technological scope. This part includes advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology provided by Saab’s strategic partner Helsing. The official validity of this second order is subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
“Arexis Is the Most Advanced Digital System on the Market”
Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson expressed his pride in the strengthening of Swedish-German cooperation while commenting on the agreement. Emphasising the importance of delivering the Arexis Electronic Warfare System to the German Air Force, Johansson added: “Arexis is one of the most advanced fully digital sensor and jamming systems on the market. The system will uniquely enhance the Eurofighter’s situational awareness and survivability in modern combat environments.”
This order reinforces Saab’s leading position in the field of electronic warfare while strengthening Germany’s defence capabilities against future threats.
