Kalashnikov Concern has delivered the “Vikhr-1” guided air-launched missiles to the Russian Army under the 2025 state contract. In a statement released by the company, it was noted that extensive work had been carried out over the past two years to ensure continuous improvement of the product. This optimization process was conducted particularly in light of intensive operational experience during the war in Ukraine (SVO) and direct feedback from soldiers on the front lines.
It was also stated that the upgraded “Vikhr-1” missiles will be directed to the international market and prepared for export beginning in 2026.
The Role of Vikhr-1 on the Battlefield
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the system has been actively used in operational areas. The “Vikhr-1” is primarily employed to target well-protected armored vehicles belonging to ground units along border and frontline zones.
Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and attack helicopters equipped with these missiles serve as one of the Russian Army’s key strike assets, conducting missions to destroy Ukrainian positions and personnel. The “Vikhr-1” missile can be employed effectively against enemy targets during daytime, nighttime, and under adverse weather conditions.
