The critical T-155 TTA Integrated Panther Howitzer project, carried out under the administrative responsibility of the General Directorate of Military Factories (AFGM) and with ASFAT as the main contractor, has been successfully completed. The first prototype of this project, which represents a significant advancement for Turkey in the field of mobile artillery systems within the defense industry, entered the inventory of the Land Forces Command on November 5, 2025. With this delivery, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has acquired a modern system with high mobility and firepower.
T-155 Panther Howitzer: Success in Integration with Indigenous Components
In this strategic project, leading companies of the Turkish defense industry—ASELSAN, BMC, and MKE—undertook critical responsibilities as subcontractors. The T-155 TTA Integrated Panther Howitzer is a successful example of a system developed entirely with domestic and national capabilities. The system is built on an 8×8 tactical wheeled vehicle designed and manufactured by BMC, providing high mobility. Mounted on this platform is the modernized 155 mm towed Panther howitzer weapon system developed by MKE, integrated with an advanced fire control system developed by ASELSAN. All major integration activities were successfully completed by the 2nd Main Maintenance Factory Directorate.
Three-Year Challenging Qualification Process and Test Success
The qualification period of the T-155 TTA Panther Howitzer lasted approximately three years, proving that the system can operate under the most demanding conditions. During this process, the prototype completed over 20,000 kilometers of driving tests in various terrain conditions. The system’s accuracy and reliability were demonstrated through approximately 350 firing tests in different firing scenarios. This comprehensive test campaign, which also included environmental condition tests, confirmed the durability and operational efficiency of the system.
Contribution to TSK: High Mobility and Effective Fire Support
The T-155 TTA Integrated Panther Howitzer provides high operational value to the artillery units of the Turkish Armed Forces. Thanks to the superior mobility offered by the 8×8 platform, the system stands out with its ability to rapidly take firing positions and deliver long-range, highly accurate fire. These capabilities ensure effective and timely fire support to combat elements, providing a critical advantage on the modern battlefield.
The project timeline began with the contract signed between AFGM and ASFAT in 2020. Following the initiation of the schedule in November 2021, prototype integration activities were completed in November 2022, and the first live-fire tests were conducted in December 2022. As of November 2025, the inspection procedures for the T-155 TTA Panther Howitzer have been completed, and the system has officially entered the inventory of the Land Forces Command, now ready for serial production.
