Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have formalized the preparatory process for the joint acquisition of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and related systems.
The four countries have initiated efforts for the joint purchase of UAVs and associated technologies. Their defense authorities aim to ensure common use and logistical interoperability in multinational operations across the Northern European region.
The joint procurement process was formalized on October 22, 2025, in Helsinki within the framework of technical arrangements. According to the announcement, the agreement will establish a comprehensive procurement model covering UAV platforms, control systems, maintenance infrastructure, and training programs.

Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen stated that this collaboration is aimed at harmonizing the defense capabilities of the four countries. It was also noted that the procurement process would contribute to coordination activities conducted as part of defense support for Ukraine.
The project is planned to proceed in alignment with joint defense efforts under the NATO framework. Officials highlighted that the procurement model could serve as a framework applicable to future defense projects as well.
