RMK Marine Delivers the World’s First Sailing Ro-Ro Vessel, Neoliner Origin
The world’s first commercial sailing Ro-Ro (Roll-On/Roll-Off) vessel, Neoliner Origin, has been completed and launched. Built by RMK Marine in collaboration with the French company Neoline Armateurs, the ship aims to pioneer sustainable maritime transportation.
Initiated in 2023 through Neoline Armateurs’ ambitious project, this venture represents a vision for a greener and more sustainable future. Measuring 136 meters in length, the remarkable vessel features a sail area of 3,000 m² and two foldable 80-meter-high carbon fiber masts. Utilizing wind energy as its primary source of propulsion, Neoliner Originreduces fossil fuel consumption by more than 80%.
Departing from RMK Marine’s shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul, the vessel will make several stops in the Mediterranean before returning to its home port in Saint-Nazaire. Its official inauguration will take place on Monday, October 13. Neoliner Origin will also be showcased at the Tonnerre de Nantes maritime event in Nantes on October 14.
