F-16 Fighting Falcons, one of the most successful fighters in the world, have been working in many countries' inventory for long years. User countries are taking action to modernize the platforms to which they are highly satisfied with their performance.
Chile, one of the many F-16 Fighting Falcon users, has requested for the necessary components and systems from the US in the past months to modernize its aircraft. Washington has approved the sale of the material requested under FMS (Foreign Military Sales) to the Santiago government. Within the the package, the total cost which was calculated as 634.7 million USD, 19 JHMCS (Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System) helmet-mounted display system, six 500 lb Mk-82 inert ammunition, 44 LN-260 Embedded GPS / INS, 49 MIDS JTRS (Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radios), radar altimeter, mission planning system, avionic components sub equipment and software updates will be acquired.
Lockheed Martin was identified as the main contractor in the process.
