Germany has decided not to modernize the existing P-3 Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) in its inventory. Germany is looking for a cost-effective solution.
The P-3's modernization was cancelled due to the high cost of modernisation, according to a confidential ministry document reviewed by the Reuters news agency. According to the document, the German Ministry of Defence has decided to procure new MPAs to replace the P-3.
Alternatively to the current aircraft, Airbus's C-295, Rheinland Air Service's RAS 72 and Boeing's P-8A Poseidon are shown.
