A new naval mine-clearing device is being developed. Raytheon will develop the single use device that the US Navy needs to identify and dispose of drifting mines, mines where at the bottom, near-surface depths. The unmanned system, called Baracuda, will be integrated into the mission package of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).
The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Raytheon signed a $ 83.3 million design, development, testing and integration agreement with the US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and if the US accepts the proposed system, agreement cost can reach $ 362.7 million.
