India issued a Letter of Request (LoR) to the US government for buying Boeing-made Apaches, formally kicking off the foreign military sales programme. India’s defence acquisition council approved the proposal to buy six Apache AH-64E attack helicopters from the US last year which is expected to cost around $650 million. The helicopters will be equipped with Hellfire and Stinger missiles.
