April 7, 2017$13 Billion Carrier Begins Sea Trials
The $12,9 billion next-generation aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford will begin the first round of its sea trials this week.Built by Newport News Shipbuilding, the keel of USS Gerald R. Ford was laid down on 13 November 2009. The US Navy is sheduled to take delivery of the ship in late April or early May for acceptance trials.Â
Gerald R. Ford is equipped with an AN/SPY-3 active electronically scanned array multi-function radar and features an electromagnetic catapult system.Â
