January 1, 2020120mm Mortar Surprise from MKEK
Mechanical and Chemical Industry Company (Makina ve Kimya Kurumu Endüstrisi Kurumu/MKEK) will introduce the 120 mm Automatic Mortar System Development Project to the public at IDEF. MKEK has kicked off the project in order to design, manufacture, test and qualify the product.
MKEK worked on five alternatives designs within the framework of the project and a solution was reached by analysing technological feasibility, production feasibility, availability, modularity, ease of use and costs for working mechanisms. The design of the barrel, Cradle Assembly, Ascension Assembly and Armband Assembly, which are the sub-main plots of the weapon system, were analysed. As a result of the analyses, necessary measures were taken and sub-assemblies were produced and the arms integration was completed. When the project is implemented, the staff will place the ammunition in the slot and push the button. Ammunition will be automatically shot from the barrel mouth. On the other hand, according to the information obtained by C4Defence automatic mortar can lock on the target at a distance of up to 9 km. Thanks to the INS navigation system integrated on the vehicle, the mortar knows where the vehicle is located and what is its direction and remains locked to the target.
