Boeing is to receive over $1 billion under a modification contract for the procurement of Redesigned Kill Vehicle (RKV) development, bringing the total value of the programme up to $5,8 billion. The modification contract covers payload development, payload ground testing, integration with the Ground-based Interceptor (GBI) and Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Ground system, flight testing and four initial production RKVs for initial fielding.
The RKV, a ground-based interceptor system designed to counter long-range ballistic missile attacks, will be jointly developed by Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. The expected completion date of work is June 30, 2022.
