We approach our training in two stages. In academic units, during pre-graduation education activities, we provide planned and structured training to medical students and later to future young surgeons who have passed the medical specialty exam and work with us in our clinic as residents.
In post-graduation education activities, we offer courses, symposiums, and congresses, providing opportunities for surgeons at every level to update their knowledge.
Especially under the dynamic of non-governmental organizations, at congresses periodically organized by professional associations, we reconnect with colleagues, learn about developments in our field, and share experiences.
The National Trauma and Emergency Surgery Association is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. For thirty years, it has organized a series of scientific and social activities. The most important of these is the 12th World Congress of Emergency Surgery, which we will organize this year.
This congress, organized annually by the World Society of Emergency Surgery, headquartered in Italy, is held in a different country each year. This year, it will take place from October 21–25, 2025, at the Susesi Hotel in Antalya, organized by the National Trauma and Emergency Surgery Association.
Nearly 300 national and international speakers will contribute to the congress, which will include expert consultations, conferences, panels, satellite symposiums, free oral and poster presentations, video presentations, open forum talks, industry stands, guest houses, and various competitions within the social program.
It is expected that more than 2,500 participants will attend, including over 2,000 surgeons from approximately 180 countries.
While some countries aim to reduce trauma-related deaths in daily life to nearly zero, it is painful that there are also societies that normalize and accept these deaths.
The high mortality rates from conditions requiring emergency surgery are strikingly similar in both developed and developing countries.
The Ukraine-Russia War, Israel-Gaza War, Syrian Civil War, India-Pakistan War, Azerbaijan-Armenia War, Iran-Israel War… Not to mention terrorist attacks…
At this congress, where we will discuss technological innovations and the potential impact of artificial intelligence on surgery, we will also examine current developments in war surgery from various perspectives.
In a world where it is claimed that we are in the Third World War, we are now aware that war is no longer limited to the frontlines but poses a threat everywhere and at every moment. Every millimeter of settlements is under threat. We will discuss shelters, shelter hospitals, and shelter surgery.
We will discuss the vital importance of having all aspects of defense medicine be domestic and national. We will hear the work of colleagues from other countries in this area. We will learn lessons from countries currently experiencing active conflict.
We believe that defense industry and defense medical industry should be interconnected processes.
This is the first time such a world congress of this scale is being organized in the field of surgery in our country.

We hope that the innovations applied in emergency surgery will further improve surgical practice and that this improvement will spread worldwide through the congress we organize.
