Two Benin soldiers were killed when the motorbike they were riding hit an improvised explosive in the north of the country, two security sources and a local resident said on Wednesday. “We lost two of our men on Tuesday. It wasn’t an attack but they drove over a homemade mine,” the military source said. The details were confirmed by a police source. Neither source blamed any group for the incident, but northern Benin has seen increasing risk of violence spilling over its border from jihadist conflicts in the Sahel.
